What is Solid (Hot Cast) Bronze? Solid (hot cast) bronze is very different from cold cast bronze and solid bronze items are very much more expensive. This is due to both the cost of the bronze and the process! Hot cast bronze casting is an ancient process which dates back many thousands of years. It involves producing a hollow wax image of the sculpture which is then coated in a thick ceramic coating which is allowed to dry thoroughly. The wax is burned away leaving a ceramic shell into which molten bronze is poured. Once cooled, the shell is smashed away to reveal the casting which is then cleaned and patinated by heating the bronze with a blow torch and applying a variety of chemicals. After cooling it is then wax polished. Cigala-Art will be offering a range of solid bronze items in addition to our very popular cold cast (resin based) sculptures.
